At night [Noaptea] - Mihai Eminescu
added by: Octavian

At night, bluish, calm, in the hearth burns the fire;
From one side of a red couch I watch it and think
Till my mind goes to rest, till my eyes start to wink;
The candle went out...I sleep full of desire.

Then you, in the darkness, smile and come with much grace
White as snow in the winter, sweet as summertime day;
And you sit on my knees, and your arms gently play
With my neck... while you look to my pale eager face.

With your soft and white arms, which have such a nice smell
You embrace me so tight, lay your head on my chest;
Then you seem to awaken and your small hands will rest
On my brow and my hair, like you're putting a spell.

Lazily you caress my head peaceful and smart
And stick your hot lips, for you think I am sleeping,
On my closed weary eyes, then to forehead they're creeping,
While you smile like a dream in a passionate heart.

O, caress me as long as my forehead is smooth,
O, caress me as long as you're still young and fair,
And clear like the dew, sweet like those flowers rare,
As long as I feel and I look like a youth.
